Herbal Immune Support

It’s that time of year again — colds and flus seem to be everywhere. As the weather shifts and our bodies adjust, it can feel like staying healthy takes a little extra effort. I know it’s not always easy (especially if you’ve got little ones who love to share their germs), but having a few natural remedies on hand can make a big difference.

Here are some of my favorite immune-supportive go-tos that you can find at stores like Nugget, Sprouts, Sac Co-Op, Davis Co-Op, and Whole Foods:

  • Traditional Medicinals Teas — These herbalist formulated seasonal blends like Echinacea Plus, Breathe Easy, Herbal Cold Care, and Throat Coat are staples in my home. They’re gentle yet deeply supportive, and there’s just something about a warm cup of tea that feels so soothing when you’re not feeling your best.

  • Throat Coat Lozenges (Traditional Medicinals) — These are perfect when your throat feels scratchy or dry. They’re packed with herbs like marshmallow that coat, soothe, and comfort the throat. I keep a them in my bag at all times.

  • Gaia Herbs Echinacea Goldenseal Propolis Throat Spray — At the very first sign of a sore throat, this is my go-to. A quick spray in the back of your throat, and it really does work like magic.

  • Elderberry Syrup — Elderberries are antioxidant-rich and work best when taken at the first signs of feeling off. Here is my recipe, but if you’re short on time, store-bought is great too. Gaia Herbs makes a really good one.

  • Fire Cider — A powerful, warming tonic that can be taken at the first signs of illness or even preventatively before a big event where you’ll be around lots of people. It helps give your immune system that extra boost. If you missed my recipe a couple of months back, you can find it here.

Other simple things also go a long way: supplementing zinc and vitamin C, eating nutrient-dense foods, moving your body, and getting a solid night’s sleep. And of course, the basics we sometimes forget — like washing hands more often and using hand sanitizer when you can’t access a sink.

Supporting your immune health doesn’t have to be complicated. With a few nourishing remedies and some simple lifestyle care, you can help your body stay resilient through the season.
